My son has had ankle pain for a week with a negative x-ray. He also has had some flu-like symptoms..any ideas?

He has had blood work twice with a slightly elevated white blood count. They are thinking Lyme disease or arthritis of some sort. We are waiting for those blood tests to come back. He may be having an MRI the beginning of next week. Any ideas?
